What We Tell the Chapters

For: Rev. Mark Frith, Carly Smith  ·  From: Gary Ricke  ·  Sept 18, 2026  ·  Decisions from the Sept 11 check-in

One page, no analysis. What Mark decided last Friday, one thing he confirms today, and the exact words the pastors, the kit, and the chapter pages will use. The Sept 11 comparables are folded up at the bottom for anyone who wants to see how the numbers were arrived at.

1 · The decisions

Standard price$99 a year per person, or $10 a month.
Mark said “$100 a year” on the call; $99 is the same number written the way every comparable writes it. Say the word if you'd rather it read $100 — nothing else on this page changes.
Boulder50% off — $49 a year
Already promised to Pastor Jarvis. Honored as said; it stays at that rate for as long as they keep the subscription.
St. Stephen, and every chapter after it30% off — $69 a year ($7 a month)
The Founding-Member rate. Industry-standard discount, and the new normal for any chapter that starts during the founding period.
GiftsA congregation or a donor can cover seats for a whole group — ask the pastor, or write Carly@champions-network.com. Seats are granted by email; no card needed. A $1,000 gift is about 14 founding seats (20 at Boulder's rate).
The price is publishedBefore anything is charged. People need to know what it's worth even if a gift covers them — “we don't want it to be free.” Paired with one standing line: if money is the obstacle, tell us and we'll work it out.
When it's chargedNot until Stripe is live. Claiming the founders rate now is a sign-up, not a payment; the discount is honored the day billing starts.
Mark confirms today: how long the founders window stays open Recommended: a member has 30 days from their chapter's first meeting to claim the Founding-Member rate, and the founding period itself closes December 31, 2026 — whichever comes first. Long enough to hear it twice from the pastor, short enough to mean something. Boulder's clock started September 10; St. Stephen's September 16. Both are inside the window either way.

2 · What the pastor says out loud

St. Stephen and every new chapter

“The Champions Academy — the study material we'll be working through — is a subscription. The full price is $99 a year. Because this chapter is one of the first, anyone who signs up in the next 30 days is a Founding Member: $69 a year, 30% off, and it stays at that rate for as long as you keep it. Nothing is charged yet — sign-up opens once the system is live, and I'll tell you when. And if the cost is ever a problem, tell me; we'll work it out.”

Boulder: same sentence, with $49 a year, half off in place of $69 / 30%.

Subject: The Academy subscription — what to tell your group

Pastor —

One thing to have in your pocket as the chapter gets going. The Champions Academy — the session material your group will study — is a subscription. The standard rate is $99 a year per person, or $10 a month.

Because your chapter is one of our first, anyone who signs up within 30 days of your first meeting is a Founding Member: $69 a year, 30% off, locked in for as long as they stay subscribed. That's my thank-you for saying yes before everything was polished.

Nothing is charged yet. Sign-up opens on the site once our payment system is live — I'll send you the link and a one-page handout the moment it does. Until then, the sessions are yours to use. And if cost is ever the obstacle for someone, have them tell you or Carly; we will work it out.

Grateful for you,
Mark

The Champions Academy

What it is. The study behind every chapter meeting: a session a month, built to be worked through on your own — on a phone, in twenty-minute pieces — and then talked through together. Two-kingdom teaching, the cases that matter, a mission plan for your community, and a discussion guide for whoever is leading that night.

What it costs. $99 a year, or $10 a month.

Founding Members. This chapter is one of the first. Sign up within 30 days of its first meeting and you're a Founding Member: $69 a year — 30% off, for as long as you stay. That rate never goes up on you.

Gifts. A congregation or a donor can cover seats for a whole group. Ask your pastor, or write to Carly@champions-network.com. If cost is the obstacle, say so — we'll work it out.

When. Sign-up opens at champions-network.com/academy once payments are live. Your pastor will tell you the day it does. Nothing is charged before then.

Boulder's insert prints with $49 / half off.

5 · Paragraph for /boulder and /st-stephen — under the schedule

About the Academy subscription. The session material is a subscription — $99 a year, or $10 a month. Members who join this chapter within 30 days of its first meeting are Founding Members at $69 a year, locked in for as long as you stay. Sign-up opens once payments are live; nothing is charged before then.

How we got here — the Sept 11 comparables

Searched Sept 11. Individual, self-paced Christian study clusters tightly; the only thing priced like “$100 a month” is a facilitated cohort with a reading load of a book a month — which settled that the number was per year.

ProgramWhat it isPer person / year
Memento (LCMS men's movement — Mark's model)Daily devotions, weekly small group of 4–8, an “anchor”; 4,000+ men$60 founders → $90
HallowCatholic prayer app; family plan $119.99 for six$69.99 ($9.99/mo)
Ligonier Connect130+ Reformed theology courses, group tools built in$108 ($9/mo)
RightNow Media (individual)“Netflix of Bible study”; churches license it at $1,200–$5,000+/yr by attendance≈ $108–$144
MasterClass · WondriumGeneral self-paced video courses$120 · $150
Seminary NowSeminary-level video curriculum$180 ($20 monthly)
Colson Fellows10-month worldview cohort, 8–10 hrs/week, monthly webinars, a Personal Mission Plan, commissioning; church-affiliate rates $450–$550$900 + ~$200 books
1517 Academy · Hillsdale · BSFFree, donor-funded$0

Where the Academy sits. More than an app (a chapter that meets, a mission plan, a discussion leader) and less than Colson (no book-a-month, no 10-hour weeks). That is the $90–$180 band; $99 is inside it, above Memento so it doesn't look like the cheaper cousin, and still an easy yes.

Founding-member practice: 20–30% off is the usual guidance (Mark's 30% for new chapters lands on it; Boulder's 50% was promised first and is honored). Lock the rate for life, cap and date it, offer annual and monthly with the annual saving visible, and say what the money is for — one sentence: “your subscription funds the Academy's production and keeps it in LCRL's hands.”
